Build notes for Armstrong Whitworth Albemarle
I have not yet started this build but any preparatory research is detailed below:-

The only use in Devon & Cornwall that I know of was by 161 Squadron which had a detachment of Albemarle, Havoc and Hudson aircraft at St. Eval for clandestine work in late 1942. I have both the Contrail and Valom kits and plan to use the Valom one. I have doubts about the apparent taper on the engine cowlings but I will replace these with Aeroclub parts. The configuration and armament of the mid-upper turret is also less than clear in the instructions and could lead to inaccuracies. Finally, Albemarles had several different arrangements for the exhausts, mid upper turret (or not) and equipment for roles such as glider towing. The early aircraft I plan will need different exhaust arrangements to those in the kit. On the plus side the plans and decals in the Contrail kit are for one of the (two ?) aircraft of the St. Eval detachment.
